小镇青年念本和狗娃从小情同手足，在他们到大城市打拼的过程中遇到了许多事业、情感上的挫折与困惑。念本在女友小微等人的影响下重新找到了自己的方向，而狗娃却一度误入歧途，最终才得以醒悟。。该片从新疆的人与水、人与土地、以及人与路三个主题切入，通过宏大叙事与个人化故事相结合的结构方式，展现出新疆生产建设兵团70年来屯垦戍边、艰苦奋斗，在戈壁沙漠中，发展交通水利、建设现代城市、耕耘绿色田园的取得种种业绩。。Two places are in focus in this soap.
