本片是导演扬•特洛尔1971年的名作《大移民》的续篇，两部电影均改编自Vilhelm Moberg的The Emigrants系列小说。本片取材此系列的后两部小说，The Settlers 和The Last Letter Home，讲述一批瑞典移民在19世纪中期的明尼苏达州建造家园的故事。18年前，5岁的桑叶和7岁的陆枭被绑架，桑叶为了保护陆枭变成了哑巴，18年后，桑叶被迫嫁给陆枭联姻后，陆枭的干妹妹林小萌也喜欢陆枭，因为桑叶抢了陆夫人的位置，而对桑叶多番陷害，林小萌偶然发现桑叶就是陆枭苦寻多年的白月光，于是抢走桑叶的信物。Marnie just graduated from college, drinks likes she's still in school, and is looking for a temporary job but a permanent boyfriend. She loves a guy who doesn't love her (?), ping-pongs between awkward romantic alternatives and even less suitable jobs.。
